There is need for such small houses on almost every farm.

If the previous little cottage is too small, then
this design, Number 6004L, offers a little more
accommodation by separating the kitchen from the living room. This
plan is 26 feet 6 inches wide and 25feet 6 inches long, with a
comfortable veranda extending across from the front entrance to
the outside corner.
The rooms in this cottage are all 12 feet or more, so there is
room for furniture enough to make a small family comfortable.
Like the two-room cottage, it is also a very neat looker. One chimney
answers for the kitchen stove and the heater in the living room.
The two-room affair needs only one stove. A good range in the kitchen-dining
room will be all the heating apparatus necessary.
There is need for such small houses on almost every farm. The help
problem is getting more difficult all the time. Few farm houses
have bed room accommodations enough to keep help over night. In
many instances, men who work on farms walk to and from the village,
or town, night andmorning. Such help is expensive and unsatisfactory.
It is expensive because it is customary to pay almost double for
day labor. It is unsatisfactory for two reasons. In the first place,
a man uses up too much energy walking back and forth. That amount
of muscle should be included in the day's work on the farm. In
the second place, such men know that the job is temporary, and
they are all the time thinking about securing employment elsewhere
as soon as the present work is finished. They realize that farmers
cannot afford to pay day wages on the farm as a steady proposition.
The same man would work for half the money if the farmer could
provide a neat little cottage like one of these plans. The smaller
one would answer for a newly married couple, and it often happens
that the children in larger families are employed away from home
so that older married men could make good use of such houses.
