5 Room Modern Bungalow

The little bungalow design illustrated on this page is all that
a bungalow should be.
It measures 46 feet across the front and extends
back 31 feet. It contains five large rooms, bathroom, reception
hall and four clothes closets. The vista of over 46 feet from the
living room through thehall to the dining room is exceptional for
a small house.
One effective way to paint this bungalow is to finish it in yellow
with white trimmings. and green shingled roof. The chimney of dark
red bricks and rough boulders is an interesting detail.
One of the important characteristics of bungalows is to have the
frame work or supporting timbers either exposed to view or indicated
in the exterior design. Notice how the gable ends in this bungalow
are trussed and supported by brackets.
Narrow bevel siding is used on this house. Many of the windows
are casements, arranged to open in.
A noticeable feature of bungalows and of all other modern residences
is the large number of windows. We are just coming to appreciate
the beauty and healthfulness of fresh air and sunshine. Above all
else, homes must be light and cheery.
The casement windows are considered more artistic than the ordinary
double hung windows. They are usually composed of a number of small
lights of glass, either leaded or divided up with wood muntins.
The window curtains have to be sash curtains. Both shade rollers
and drapery set are attached to the casement itself.
Occasionally inward opening casements are hung which are not storm
tight. If properly made they have a projecting shoe mould fastened
to the bottom, which sticks out far enough to cover the joint and
effectually keens out the wind or snow.
