The bible was the featured book in American homes of the bungalow
period. Many homes would have had a large verison on a stand
in the living room and it would have been read from frequently. We
have not collected bibles, but the idea of featuring bible
verses with pictures of period furnishings is interesting.
Other books of this time are more difficult
to evaluate. In the period before radio and television there was still
the need for entertainment. There was an entire pulp fiction industry working
to fill this need. Self improvement magazines were as popular then as they
are now. If you read the advertisements in old magazines you will be shocked
at how timeless many of the messages are. People wanted to be in style,
they wanted to better themselves, they craved health, and they wanted love and
security.
There have been a LOT of books about the bungalow style era published
in the years since then. Some are good, some are superficial
and all are expensive. We focus our budget on old originals
and leave the rest to someone else.
